Many health organizations, including the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and
the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), recommend having your hearing checked regularly—
especially you Baby Boomers who cranked up your rock ’n roll in the 60’s (and your disco in the 70’s)!
Establish a baseline as proof you can hear. Should you ever experience a sudden hearing loss (due to a car or work-related accident, for example), insurance companies may contest your claim if you cannot document having good hearing beforehand.
Increased awareness of how hearing works will give you a greater appreciation for the hearing
you do have. You will also come away with a better
understanding of why it’s so important to
protect and
care for your hearing.
Early detection and treatment can slow the progression of future hearing loss. Another way of putting
it: A hearing loss left untreated does not improve. When you deprive your brain of certain
sounds for too long, you risk losing the ability to clearly hear those sounds again.
If you suspect that you have a hearing loss—or if you already
know that you have a hearing loss but don’t presently wear
hearing aids—what you have before you is an incredible
opportunity to make a positive and lasting difference in your
life! (If you have not yet done so, please see The Impact of
Untreated Hearing Loss page.)
“Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the things you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the wind in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." –Mark Twain
Hear Better. Live Better.**
*Hearing test always free. Not a medical exam. Audiometric test to determine proper amplification needs only.
**Hearing aids do not restore natural hearing. Individual experiences may vary depending on severity of loss, accuracy of evaluation, proper fit, and ability to adapt to amplification.
