About Our FREE Hearing Test*

In order to make a hearing recommendation that is specific and appropriate, it’s important that we have an accurate understanding of your hearing profile, your listening environments, and your sound comfort levels. That is why we conduct such thorough and complete hearing tests:

First, we’ll consult with you on your lifestyle to gain an understanding and appreciation for your listening needs and expectations. Your relationships, your hobbies and interests, the environments you live in—we take all of these factors into consideration when making a hearing recommendation for you.

Next, you will see what we see—on a color TV monitor!

Using a Video Otoscope, a technically advanced miniature camera, we thoroughly examine your ear canal for excessive wax build-up, eardrum damage, and other conditions that may make it difficult to hear clearly.

In many cases, a person’s hearing loss may be totally due to simple wax build-up, which is easily taken care of and does not require hearing aids. We look for the simple solution first!

If ear wax is not the cause of your hearing loss, we will then conduct an audiometric test to determine both the extent of your hearing loss and how much your hearing can be improved with amplification technology.

The results of this test can be shown to you in an easy-to-understand graph called an audiogram.
At right is an audiogram that depicts the frequency and the decibel level of some common
everyday sounds. You can click on the image to enlarge it.

Then we will conduct a Live Speech Mapping test. This is one of the newest, state-of-the-art means of assessing and showing you your hearing loss. Live Speech Mapping uses “live real time speech” of a family member or friend—not little ‘beeps’.

If vowels or consonants are not being heard clearly, that is detected and shown. Or if loud speech actually overwhelms your hearing, that, too, is detected and shown. A digital hearing aid could then be programmed to correct these hearing difficulties.

Hearing is believing! Once we have a complete understanding of your unique hearing loss, we will program a set of hearing aids for you and let you test them right in our office.

We can create a wide and varied range of listening environments (riding in a car, eating at a noisy restaurant, attending a concert, etc.) so you can hear for yourself just how much better you could hear in the places and situations where you want to hear better the most!**
